This dress is inspired by the traditional medieval version
This began to change after the Battle of Tarawa as the air support for ground troops flown by Navy pilots left much to be desired
The sleeves are made in a below-the-elbow length with a notch at the end - it appears that there had been ties to secure the cuff to the arm, but the original owner removed them, so the ends of the sleeves are loose and open (see second-to-last close-up photo)
